RESIDENTS are celebrating after winning the latest battle against a betting shop chain’s plans to open in Grand Parade, Green Lanes.
The premises, at the junction with Chesterfield Gardens, has already been fitted out by the Better betting chain at a cost of £25,000, says Ian Sygrave, chairman of the Harringay Ladder Community Safety Partnership. But at a licensing sub-committee hearing last Wednesday, councillors rejected the application.
Better is expected to appeal the decision at magistrate’s court in due course.
Mr Sygrave said: “We are very pleased to win. I would like to thank all the residents who signed the petition. Everything will now depend on the magistrate’s court hearing.

I think a particular thanks is also due to Peter Lorrimer, Mario and Hugh of the Harringay Website (harringay.ning.com) who did an enormous amount of work gatering support for the campaign, researching the case and making effective presentations at the commitees.
Haven’t they finally opened that one? An another one just across the road, for that matter? Green Lanes is now only Turkish joints and betting shops…
