Twenty-five men have been arrested for kerb crawling following a clampdown on prostitution in Hackney.

They were arrested on suspicion of soliciting sex during the four-day operation in Dalston, Finsbury Park and Stoke Newington.

An undercover policewoman posed as a prostitute during Operation Bocas focusing on the borough’s notorious vice spots from Monday to Thursday last week.

Officers from the Met Police’s Clubs and Vice Operation joined Hackney Safer Neighbourhood teams.

They swooped on Shacklewell Lane in Dalston, Queen Elizabeth’s Walk in Stoke Newington and Brownswood Road in Finsbury Park.

The operation coincided with a public information campaign warning kerb crawlers of the risk of prosecution.

Chief Supt Ian Dyson, in charge of the Met’s Clubs and Vice Unit, said: “Kerb crawling causes misery to many – from the communities that are blighted by the crime and detritus associated with the on-street sex markets, the chaotic and often vulnerable women who are forced by their circumstances to work the capital’s streets, to the families and friends of the men who are caught.
