Decision on betting shop delayed again
06 February 2008
A HEARING on whether to allow a fifth betting shop to open in a small stretch of Green Lanes was postponed for a second time last week – because there weren’t enough councillors available.
The application for Better, on the corner of Grand Parade and Chesterfield Gardens, was originally slated for December 20, then postponed to last Tuesday as a councillor was ill.
It has now been pushed back for a second time after Harringay ward councillor Carolyn Baker (Liberal Democrat) decided it was not appropriate to sit on the panel having objected to a previous betting shop application in her ward.
The applicants are understood to have hired a lawyer to argue their case.
The application attracted letters of objection and a 190-signature petition from residents, police, councillors and Tottenham MP David Lammy.
The meeting is set for Thursday at 6.30pm.
