Police bid to stamp out robberies on buses
23 July 2008
POLICE have cracked down on schoolboy robbers who steal from other students on Crouch End’s buses.
Operations have been carried out by the Safer Neighbourhoods Team on the W5 and W7 bus routes, as well as at bus stops on the Broadway.
Police Constable James Reynolds said this has led to good progress targeting anti-social behaviour – one of the Crouch End team’s ward priorities.
He said: “There was a time when people were complaining to us about anti-social behaviour and also schoolboy robbers around bus stops and around the W7 bus.”
He added: “It’s people of school age targeting school children. Just by our presence we hope that that deters subjects from even coming to Crouch End.”
The W7 bus route runs from Muswell Hill to Finsbury Park via Crouch End, while the W5 passes through the area going from Archway to Harringay Sainsbury’s.
Adam Jogee, 16, youth councillor and Highgate Wood School pupil, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that the local Safer Neighbourhoods Team are working to crack down on this petty crime that is hugely important to young people.
“It’s very good that young people can safely travel on the bus without being robbed.
