DISPERSAL ZONE FOR TROUBLED STREET
15 August 2008
New measures to ensure a once notorious Finsbury Park street remains crime free have been introduced by police.
Officers have put in place a dispersal zone preventing people from loitering in Blackstock Road.
Police now have the power to break up groups of two or more people in the street or arrest them.
The tough new measures have been introduced to stop the criminal networks selling stolen goods from returning.
More than 600 riot cops descended upon the street in a massive show of force last April.
The Met revealed this week that 21 people have been sent to jail as a direct result of the raid.
They have been sentenced for offences ranging from handling stolen goods to selling counterfeit documents.
Sgt Rob O’Connor said: “Blackstock Road is the quietest it has ever been. There has been a massive drop in crime and the community say they now feel much safer.”
